The Threshold Centre Co-housing Project

Threshold Centre was awarded an Ecohomes "Excellent" rating in March 2010

This ground breaking co-housing project at Cole Street Farm in Gillingham, Dorset has seen the conversion of old brick agricultural building s into 7 new and highly sustainable residential units to add to 7 other existing dwellings.   Space heating and domestic hot water is provided by community biomass district heating, and lighting and ventilation loads have been offset with 4 kW of PV.

We have worked with this project and the Architects, Bruges Tozer for the past 3 years providing energy modelling, renovation and renewable feasibility studies, biomass and solar energy systems design and specification briefs, planning process support  and both SAP and Ecohomes assessments.

 What the client says....

"Brilliant Futures were very brave in taking us on as a client. The Threshold Centre - an educational project about cohousing and sustainable development- has been led by a resident management group, of whom only a few had particular experience in the building/sustainable energy sectors. We found that Brilliant Futures were very sympathetic to our needs, wants and lack of knowledge in some key areas and were always prepared to go the extra mile. Their support with our planning application process was outstanding. We are very grateful for their patience and understanding with our process and procedures!"
